Background![]() I was born 1968 in England, in the quiet county of Kent, sometimes referred to as the garden of England. I graduated from University College Chester, affiliated to the University of Liverpool with a combined degree (B.A. Hon) in Mathematics and Music. From 1989 - 1991 I taught as an assistant English teacher at Reitaku High School. I then returned to England and took a Master of Education (M.Ed.) in T.E.F.L. (Teaching English as a Foreign Language) at the University of Bristol. |

Classes From the 1999 Academic year I will be teaching academic writing, U.K. current affairs (using BBC TV news and the Electronic Telegraph) in the English Department, and 2 English conversation classes for the non-major English students. I teach one practical computer-science class using the Macintosh. I also give lectures on 'World Englishes' and "British Culture' for the freshmen 'Language and Culture' course. ![]() Drama Group I am the Director of the English Drama Group. The Group performs several English productions every year. Our main production is a Shakespearean play, performed in the Toho Seimei Hall in Shibuya every November. Last year we performed Henry V (a UK98 Festival event). The English Drama Group is a very useful tool for students to learn to use practical English. Through acting on stage, students can learn to express themselves in English, and gain confidence in speaking English. Also, students can learn a variety of skills through making drama: management, set, properties, lighting, costume, advertising, art, music, printing, etc. All production jobs must be carried out in collaboration with the Director, myself; thus students are put in a situation where they must use English to carry out their work. Additionally, I have many meetings, and various activities in my house, where I talk with students in a relaxed and informal environment. I receive at least 2,000 student visitors to my house per annum. The motto of the Drama Group is Strive to do Better, which is taken from Shakespeare's King John (Act IV, Scene 2, line 28), and encourages the group to work closely together in a warm and hardworking atmosphere. |
