国際人口学シンポジウムのご案内

　麗澤大学は、2006年、文化功労者の速水融･麗澤大学名誉教授より膨大な歴史人口学研究の

資料と書籍の寄贈を受け、歴史人口学アーカイヴとともに黒須里美教授を代表とする人口･家族史

研究プロジェクトを発足させました。開学50周年を迎えた今年、環境･経済･人口をめぐる長期的

視野にたった比較研究の重要性を踏まえ、国際人口学会（IUSSP）歴史人口学パネル主催・日本人

口学会協賛の国際セミナーをホストし、公開シンポジウムを開催します。

　現代の私たちを脅かす環境変動や天候異変による経済や生活への打撃、新型インフルエンザの

ようなパンデミック(大流行)、これらは決して私たちが体験する新たな脅威ではありません。

私たちの過去には多数の餓死者を出した170年前の天保の飢饉、さらにその半世紀前、東北地

方で10万人の餓死者を出したとされる天明の飢饉、そして関東大震災の5倍近くの死者をもた

らした「スペイン風邪」と称される90年前の史上最悪の「新型インフルエンザ」があります。

私たちは過去の経験に何を発見し、何を学べるのでしょうか。本シンポジウムでは、日本人にと

って最も近い過去における「飢饉」と「パンデミック」に焦点をあて、長期的･比較的視野から議

論します。

本セミナーは急激な、あるいは予期せぬ経済や環境の変化が、個人や家族の人口行動に

どのような影響を与えるのかという問題について議論する。ここでいう変化とは、たと

えば金融危機、食物価格の変動、凶作、政権交代、戦争などによって生じる社会的、政

治的、経済的変化から、津波、洪水、台風、地震などの自然災害まで、多岐にわたる。

このような急激な変化には、ある程度予測可能なものもあれば、不可能なものもあり、

それにたいする人々の行動も様々である。

今回のセミナーでは、地域、世帯、家族そして個人の特性が、こうした外的変化の効果

に与える影響を探るとともに、地域間、あるいは地域内における人口学的反応の違いに

ついても明らかにする報告を期待したい。

Call for Papers

International Seminar on Demographic Responses to Sudden Economic and Environmental Change
Kashiwa, Chiba, Japan, 21-23 May 2009
Organized by the IUSSP Scientific Panel on Historical Demography, in cooperation with Reitaku University, the Population Association of Japan, and the Centre for Economic Demography, Lund University

Deadline for submission of abstract: 1 November 2008.

This seminar will examine the effects of sudden or unexpected economic or environmental change on the demographic behavior of individuals and families. Such change may be social, political, or economic in origin, stemming for example from financial crises, food price fluctuations, harvest failure, regime change, or war. Alternatively such change may be associated with natural disasters, stemming from tsunami, flooding, hurricanes, and earthquakes. Responses differ because while some changes were very rare and almost impossible to prepare for, others were common enough to plan for. We invite papers that examine how community, household, family and individual characteristics conditioned the effects of sudden external changes and led to demographic responses that varied not only across regions or communities, but within them as well.

The IUSSP Scientific Panel on Historical Demography invites researchers in the field to submit a 200-word abstract (and if the author(s) wish, a complete manuscript, which must be unpublished) before 1 November 2008.

Abstracts and papers must be submitted in English only and the working language at the meeting is English.

Applicants will be notified whether their paper has been accepted by 1 December 2008.
Participants must submit their complete paper by 20 April 2009.

Séminaire international sur les réponses démographiques aux changements économiques et environnementaux soudains

Organisé par le Comité scientifique de l’UIESP de démographie historique, en collaboration avec l’Université Reitaku, la Population Association of Japan, et le Centre for Economic Demography de l’Université de Lund

Date limite pour la soumission des résumés : 1er novembre 2008

Ce séminaire examinera les effets de changements économiques ou environnementaux soudains ou imprévus sur le comportement démographique des individus ou de leur famille. Ces changements peuvent avoir une origine sociale, politique ou économique, découlant par exemple de crises financières, de fluctuations des prix alimentaires, de mauvaises récoltes ou de guerres. Ils peuvent par ailleurs être liés à des catastrophes naturelles, tsunamis, inondations, ouragans ou tremblements de terre. Les réponses diffèrent selon qu’il s’agisse de changements très rares, auxquels il est presque impossible de se préparer, ou de changements plus courants pour lesquels il est possible de planifier. Seront particulièrement bienvenues les communications qui étudient comment les caractéristiques des communautés, des ménages, des familles et des individus conditionnent les effets de changements externes soudains et mènent à des réponses démographiques qui varient non seulement d’une région ou d’une communauté à une autre mais aussi au sein de chacune d’entre elles.

Le Comité scientifique de l’UIESP de démographie historique invite les chercheurs dans ce domaine à soumettre un résumé de 200 mots en anglais (et, si l’auteur le souhaite, une communication complète, à condition que celle-ci n’ait pas fait l’objet d’une publication auparavant) avant le 1er novembre 2008.
